I know that the subject of Petco ferrets was raised several days ago, But I have been ill and unable to respond until now. As an animal specialist who works for Petco, I know firsthand what goes on with the company and it's stores. I have been with Petco for 4 years now and I can honestly say that when I first started working for them, I was disgusted and unhappy with many of the things I witnessed concerning animal care. The store I worked at had gotten better, ONLY due to us getting a good manager that really, truly cared about the animals that she was responsible for. She was the ONLY manager I have ever seen in my entire time at Petco that had that dedication. And of course, she was recently fired over what are completely bogus things. She was never liked because she was considered a pain, she was always pushing for better conditions for the animals, something that the higher ups are not used to dealing with, Sadly, now we are stuck with another manager who's primary concern is for pleasing the costumer, the animals defiantly DON"T come first. Of course, this would be denied because my company prides itself on animals coming first and good care. My store is defiantly one of the best in the company right now, Our animals are cared for, although there are many things that should be done to improve things. I have recently, within the month, visited 3 other Petcos and walked out sick at the way the animals were being kept. Cages dirty and too small, no food, just really sad conditions. I have made immediate complaints about this, but sadly I have never seen my company work quickly to improve these things, Stores in the New York and surrounding areas had stopped using Marshalls for a while but recently had to go back to getting ferts from them again because the vendor they had been using was no longer available and Marshalls was the only other option right now. Hopefully if the customers AND the employees work together to let corporate know how we feel about Marshalls, thing will change. It's worth the shot, those poor animals deserve much better! No creatures deserve to be treated as they are .. I am aware that there are others on this list that work for Petco that will not feel the same as I do about this company. I have no reason to lie about I see, people deserve to know the truth about the companies the patronize. Let's just hope that someday pet stores everywhere will recognize and meet the needs of the animals they sell. One more thing.. As for litter training kits in the store... My store has just started to try and train them. Usually stores around my area just fill the entire bottom of the glass enclosure with litter and wonder how come the kits aren't responding to litter training well, This shows how much training the employees that care for the animals receive! Thanks for for your patience in listening,,,, Kathy [Posted in FML issue 4338]
