Janice: There's one thing I must mention in conjunction with aromatic woods and small mammals: I have read, more than once, that aromatic woods can give off gasses ("out gassing") that can harm small mammals. This is why most who know anything about it, don't use cedar chips in critter cages. There is some controversy about it, but it goes to figure that, if it is strong enough for a person to smell, it may be too strong for critters. Why do you think they use it in clothing storage containers? It repels moths with it's odor. Just something to be aware of. As for moth balls, we used to use them in Texas to kill fire ants. Just one moth ball, shoved into a large, healthy fire ant mound, will kill it completely overnight! That's interesting about using the R/C car in the attic. It would probably take one larger than the one I have, but they now make them big enough for a small child to ride. :o) They make and sell, in alarm supply houses, a "Wrist Rocket" slingshot with a Zebco fishing reel attached to the handle, just for getting wires across attics. To date, that's about the best way to do it. But, when it comes to ferrets doing the job, one thing just came to mind: fiberglass insulation. I don't think that would be too good for any animal (although mice and rats seem to thrive in it). I certainly wouldn't want to expose *mine* to any insulation. Gary [Posted in FML issue 4307]
