Condolences to those with lost, sick, or angeled leg lotharios... (Come on, troops...we're gonna climb this leg if it takes all afternoon!) I'm a rather picky person. Ferrets are really dumb. You should never look directly at the sun without adequate protection. These are all true statements. There are many out there, that think a ferret knows what is good for it and how much of a given thing is healthy. This is not so. Like a dog, if you let a ferret decide how many treats are safe, it will kill itself wolfing down all the treats it can stuff into its little body. Anything, given in sufficient quantity, can not only make a ferret sick, it can actually kill it. On the other hand, even deadly poisons, given in very tiny amounts, won't harm most living things. We breathe otherwise toxic air every day. We drink water impregnated with all sorts of bad things in it. We take billions of deadly microbes into our body with every breathe we take. Yet we continue on as though nothing happened. I've been using 8 in 1 products for about six years now (ever since I've had ferrets). I use the Ferretone and FerretVite suppliments all the time. I've used various snacks of theirs (including yogurt drops) to give my ferrets a treat from time to time. Yes, they have ingredients that should not be given to ferrets in large amounts--some are even toxic if given in large doses (like vitamin A, sugar and other items). The responsibility here, is to know how much is enough and how much is too much. It is also our responsibility to put things where the ferrets can't get at them, no matter what. A ferret, when they locate a "treat", will (in most case) gorge themselves until sick. Remember when it was said that a ferret has the intelligence of a 6 to 8 year old child? Put a box of cookies on the table near a child, then walk away and see what happens. Though there are exceptions, for the most part, that kid will eat every cookie in the box. And that same kid will have stomach cramps for hours afterward. Anything, given in moderation, can be OK. That same thing, in excess, can kill. If you give treats, no matter *who* makes them, exercise some intelligence! Remember, the brain inside a ferret skull is about the size if your fingernail! Your brain is substantially larger!! Ok, so a few of you out there still aren't smarter than a ferret. In those cases, give me a call and I'll guide you through the treating process! :) Todd and the Fuzzbutt Rodeo Clowns! --- mailto:[log in to unmask] http://www.netconex.com/toddl/page2/ [Posted in FML issue 4252]
