BC: Re: CNS: You'll want to talk with Marie B in Sweden on this point. She thinks that domestic ferrets seems to have a reduced sense of smell compared to the polecats and half polecats (using US terms here with "ferrets" for the domestics of any pelage versus wild polecats -- not using these terms as pelage terms as sometimes is done in some countries). If there is any reduction perhaps the olfactory bulb may be a place to look rather than the frontals. (Of course, brain size alone is a tricky thing since it is the number of connections which make much of the difference and that is not size dependent except if talking in marked terms about reductions of specific areas so among humans there have been a number of geniuses who don't have large brains, while among dogs the larger ones in a group aren't necessarily the brighter ones, with it being more individual for many.) Mike, http://www.supportourshelters.org or write SEND SHELTER LISTS to [log in to unmask] or http://www.smartgroups.com/vault/ferrethealth/ReferenceShelf/shelter.txt (Different locations for the same list since it is so incredibly important.) It's also a way to find vets, and so are the many lists of vets in the crit. refs. at http://ferretcongress.org (California folks should also check out the California-specific sites for vets.) Linda: Parasites: http://www.smartgroups.com/vault/ferrethealth/common_parasites.txt Kelly: http://fhl.sonic-weasel and http://listserv.cuny.edu/archives/ferret-search.html (searching on "Champ" as well as partial words like "nephr", and full ones like "kidney") There was a lot of ulcer info in the Wednesday FML so you likely already used those leads such the article http://www.afip.org/ferrets/ulcers.html in Dr. William's AFIP site (which has a LOT of health info), the many links (including a lot by vets) in the critical refs at the International Ferret Congress (addy 2 paragraphs above), and in the archives mentioned in this paragraph. I am not a vet, Steve and i are just folks who have had ferrets in our family continuously for 21 years. [Posted in FML issue 4190]
