Further to Lorraine's query on a balanced diet for ferrets - As many of you will know, the British domestic ferret was traditionally fed whole carcases of rabbit and pigeon. Often very infreqently (sometimes once a fortnight!!). Often, the ferrets had bolted the rabbit from the burrow. Many owners still feed joints of rabbit with the fur on. Those of us who are more squeamish or do not have easy access to this natural and balanced diet (myself included) feed a mix of complete ferret food, high protein cat biscuits and raw meat. I feed James Wellbeloved Ferret Complete, Omega cat biscuits and raw mince, lamb and chicken. Raw (it must be raw) chicken on the bone helps to keep teeth clean. It took ages for people to persuade me to feed chicken wings and legs - I was convinced my ferrets would choke. I don't know if this helps at all. Jenny Loweth. [Posted in FML issue 4134]
