I need help with my 3 3/4yr old male ferret. He has Bronchitis. It was diagnosed with an xray and he has been on Clavamox for two days. The problem is he seems to be getting worse instead of better. People in my houshold are just getting over the flu and my husband has bronchitis from it so the vet and I don't believe it is from allergies at this time although my other two ferrets don't have it yet. They are all caged by themselves. My question is: Is clavamox the best we can give him? What can we do to help the cough? I have been giving him a few licks of ferretone when he coughs and this seems to calm him down. I put the respiratory medicine you get over the counter that contains camphor on his bedding and I'm keeping him warm. I let him out several times a day to keep things loosened up in his lungs. He doesn't appear to be short of breath. He has no nasal discharge or watery eyes. Is there anything more I can do? I'm getting a real bad feeling about all of this. I'm worried he might go into pneumonia and die. I've lost two ferrets this year to various cancers. One just a month ago. Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.
