Romeo is a very sweet ferret in need of your help. He suffered a broken leg last Sunday. However, the owner could not afford the medical care involved in getting it repaired. He was also hesitant to give Romeo up to someone who could care for him and pay to get his limb repaired. It was a clean break and the leg has been dangling for the past week. Through the efforts of some very wonderful people(thank you Reanee and Randy!), Romeo will receive the medical care he so desperately needed. The surgery to repair this type of break would normally have cost $1,000, but is now double that; because he went so long without medical care, his muscles have begun to shrink, pulling his bone in 2 different directions:-( Randy Belair(of Ferret Aid Society) said that due to it being such a bad break, "the ortho surgeon is worried about the bones knitting together because the break is a week old. This surgery is going to be tricky and in order to try to save his leg, they may have to cut his bone slightly in order to fuse it back together." Now the surgery will be costing Randy over $2,000. Randy was absolutely wonderful for taking this boy in and making sure he got the vet care he needs, especially on such a short notice. Even with everything else going on in her life, she took him in:) We are in desperate need of donations to help pay for Romeo's surgery! If you can find it within your heart to make a donation, please do. You can donate by going to the Ferret Aid's web site http://www.ferretaid.org and clicking on the "donate now" button. Randy was able to put a $500 deposit on the surgery, but she will have to pay the balance by midweek. Please donate whatever you can; for everything that Randy has done for the ferret community, I don't think it's asking too much:) BTW, even with all the pain he's in, Romeo is still a very sweet boy:) Thank you in advance for any help you can offer! ~Nancy ===== Director/Coordinator Ferrets Across America http://www.geocities.com/ferrets_america/ [Posted in FML issue 4033]
