Hi folks, I've been so busy with my new baby girl, that I haven't had much opportunity to read my emails, including the FML, but after catching up on it yesterday, I found of interest the thread about Kris's posts. One thing I haven't yet read, though admittedly, I may have easily missed it, is the following: Most shelters are not for profit organizations. Even if they haven't actually applied for such status legally, shelters are almost always at least partially dependant on donations. Now, what in the heck is the difference between asking for a donation for something in particular and accepting donations to be used at a later date?? I personally don't have one single problem with any shelter, (Or individual for that matter, but that is a different matter,) openly asking for funds for anything on the FML. Why? Because they are simply asking for donations, which they probably would need even if these little emergencies didn't pop up from time to time. As to the point someone brought up about Kim speaking against ADV testing and now asking for money to do one... Why bash her for this?? I don't recall the particular conversation where she spoke against the need for ADV testing, but even if she did, now she has a ferret that needs an ADV test and has gone so far as to ask for help in paying for said test, and personally, I think that is commendable. So maybe she changed her mind about ADV testing, isn't that the outcome most of us would prefer? And if she just decided this particular ferret is at more risk or possibly showing symptoms of ADV and she is only going to test it, there again, thats one more ferret being tested, so who are we to judge?
