My professional hardwood floors man told me that the wax protects the
floors better than the sealant.  Also, once you get animal urine on
hardwood, the only way to get it OUT is to replace the boards.
 
I had my hardwood floors replaced in 1991 following a flood.  I am not
nearly as afraid of damaging them now - seems you can fix most anything
these days.
