Over the past few days we have seen a number of comments and concerns raised about our Society's actions with regards to our policies, contracts and moral standings as a non-profit ferret rescue. Correct, none of us are in this for the money, glory or fame. No decision we make is ever an easy one, but as long as our decisions are always in the best interest of the FERRET(S) and are law abiding, then can a shelter/rescue ever be making the wrong decision? Fact: Our surrendering contract states that the surrendering party has up to 72 hours to reclaim a ferret if they so request. In that 72 hour time frame any veterinary cost associated with the surrendered ferrets will be the responsibility of the surrendering party. Fact: We have the ability to prove that in no situation has a surrendering party called us 18 hours after a decision was made to surrender based on date and time stamped phone records. Fact: FRES has not received any recent personal contact from a surrendering party requesting that their ferrets be returned. Comments based on assumptions and inaccurate information will only lead to the outpour of wasted energies and time as it has in this case. It is essential that Ferret Rescues/Shelters worldwide work together as we all have a common goal...saving ferrets! Situations such as this one only cause confusion, which is such a shame considering that the two ferret rescues involved are located in the same city and a mere phone call or email relaying this individual's concerns could have cleared up this situation much more efficiently. With that said, on behalf of the board of directors of the Ferret Rescue & Education Society, we would like you all to note that we refuse to waste anymore time on the FML. Our apologies for this ugliness. All this time spent on the FML regarding this matter may have been better spent. Should you have any questions regarding this case, our policies, or any other aspect of our society, we invite you to contact us via email at [log in to unmask] We wish everyone all the best in their endeavours. Betty, if you have any final words to add, please do... otherwise the topic is closed since it's all been said already! BIG] [Posted in FML issue 3931]
