I have some questions concerning your love & compassion for ferts. Would you *bill* someone who helped a shelter like to move cages?Clean cages? If you did a rescue, would you bill the people helping? Let me explain.I recently gave another shelter some of my ferrets to adopt out as I'd been told they had a waiting list to be fulfilled.I had them come to my place.I gave cages, water bottles,50# of food, food bowls, hammies, everything needed.I even helped to transport them. When arriving,I found out that another shelter had just closed & brought all those ferrets to this shelter. So,it was chaois. The next day,I cleaned like 17 cages to be used for the incoming. Then when done with that,I helped to pick up left over yard sales that had been donated to this shelter. And I cut thier front yard.Cleaned a ferts room.Did I bill them?No way. And then on Monday, there was a pet expo at the fairgrounds.I helped to put up tents, carry water. One of the shelter Mom's ( this shelter has 2 homes of which house ferts)drew up a poster with an angle fert on it saying that I was there from my state to assist them/NO WAY!!! It'snot done on a computer!! This shelter Mom is an artist & it hurt both our feelings to have it yanked down & toold that only this shelter would be advertised as it was their doings.Ok,I'd been told. I have a man who is the original owner of Casey,Keema & Lexus. He would love to have them back.Well, the one younger lady running the one house of the shelter says he has to pay for their time & money spent on transporting them to thaty shelter.Yes,it was along trip. From Dothan,Al to Pensacola,Fl.A 3-4 hour drive. And yes, this man has offered to pay adoption fees & whatever they asked. Today,I drove up there to get these 3 ferts. They were going to meet me in Ft Walton on Sunday.Well, the younger lady with all the young adoptables calls me yesterday, saying that she thinks Casey is depressed & missing Gabe of whom I have here. That she is having to force feed.Ok,now I'm very concerned. Thus the trip today. Excuse me for not calling & making an appointment!!And then I get there & it's a no way situation. They then claim that they only adopt within a 80 mile radius!!!It's on their site. My only concern was for the sick fert!! And to get these kids to their original owner.I was going to keep them here until I leave for OctFest in MD & take them to thier forever home on the way. Now in all my years of rescueing,& helping other shelters,I've never been billed for any expenses incurred. Is this a normal practice or just someone thinking they will make money being a shelter? I will never have any dealings with this shelter again. Not the younger one. The older couple I believe does indeed have the ferrets best interest at heart. They so wanted these kids to be reunited with thier Dad.But because they are a corperation? they must vote. You have one married couple in one house & another in the other. And a sinlge lady. Out voted for a dollar.Sad but true. [Posted in FML issue 3911]
