Pandora is a very heavy sleeper. She has often been known to pull the "dead ferret trick". She frequently crawls into her hammie to sleep, only to start gradually slipping out, her head inching closer and closer to the floor, eventually ending up with her head actually resting on the floor while only her hind end remains in the hammock. Of course, the inevitable happens - and she doesn't even wake up as she flops onto the floor of the cage. Only one thing wakes her from this sound sleep - every single time. The shower. Turn on the shower and she bolts out of a deep sleep and comes running from out of her hidey-hole for the sheer delight of frolicking around in the puddles in the bottom of the shower - even pawing at the glass if I do not immediately open the door for her. This said, I had to pull out the carpet cleaner today (after my 2 year old human daughter peed on my chair) *sigh*. So I decided that while it was out I would go ahead and clean the carpet in the ferret cage, too. Being sure not to use hot water, I opened the cage door to clean while Pandora lazily watched me from the hammock above the carpeting. As I finished up, she decided to hop down - and spazzed completely. She immediately began this frantic, hopping, leaping, tripping sort of dance across the cage, somehow managing to never have more than one or two paws touching the floor at any given time. Finally she reached the doorway to the attached superpet cage, and like lightening streaked across to the safety of its plastic floor panels. There she sat, huddled in the furthest corner of that cage, glaring at me; looking for all the world like she was thinking, "Mom, how *could* you do that to me? You *know* how I hate to get my paws wet!" Shannon (giving up on ever figuring these little guys out) Sterling, Pandora, and Jasmin [Posted in FML issue 3877]
