The AFA is currently accepting applications for the position of AFR Managing Editor. For many, a subscription to the American Ferret Report (AFR) is the most important benefit of AFA membership, and the Managing Editor is at the center of the publication process. The responsibilities of the position include: *Soliciting, writing, and editing articles with the assistance of the medical editor and AFA board members; *Soliciting, taking, and selecting photographs for publication, including the cover photograph; *Selling advertising space; *Providing all articles, photographs, and, advertisements in digital format to the composition vendor; *Ensuring that all articles are proofread in final format by the Editor-in-Chief and proofreader; *Sending instructions to the printer. Basic computer skills including word processing and e-mailing are necessary. The ability to scan and touchup photographs electronically is very helpful. The most important qualifications are strong writing skills, dedication to meeting publication deadlines, and a commitment to fair and accurate reporting that represents the many viewpoints of the AFA membership.
