Well I just talked to the Manager of the BRAND NEW Keene, NH Petco -a
mere 5 miles away from Ferret Wise-- she called to see about educational
dates at the store-

I am arranging to drop off information (ADV booklets & Mini guides)
I asked her who is distributing ferrets to her store-- any guesses?
ANIMALS, ETc.

Sorry, but I told her as much as we would LIKE to work with problem cases
from her store -- it would not be possible as we are an ADV negative
shelter. I am hoping I can educate her I did tell her it is not possible
for us to assist with problem ferrets-- UNLESS they change distributors
for ferrets!

sigh.....
part 2
Okay so I decided to go in tonight ( Shelter Dad's idea) and took the
literature- Now I know why I was called.

There are 10 ferrets there today all new ones-- 1 may be 8 weeks old all
the remaining are approx 5 1/2 weeks old with prolapsed rectums and being
treated for coccidia. The are scheduled to be shipped back to the
distributor.

I took th4e young manager aside and asked her is she was aware of the
return process ( euth) she was not of course. I told her although I was
not happy- we WOULD take them & quarantine & test them rather than see
them returned to Animals Etc.

She then said she would have to contact Mike the manager.

This whole scenario reminds me of the Manchester, NH Petco incident
several years ago - where they back roomed biters from Triple F farms,
allowed them to reside in feces and urine soaked shavings in a shipping
crate- allowed them to go without water because no one wanted to get
nipped and threw the food directly onto urine soaked shavings when
feeding them. Then euthanized them rather than let us take them into
the shelter.

I sincerely hope that is not the case-- but if the ferrets disappear
and they don't get here- I will NEVER support the store again.. NOT IN
ANY WAY-
