Well, I have some good and bad news. The good news is that Daggett has gained 1/2 a pound in the week and 1/2 he's been home from the hospital. WHEW!! I guess I'm doing something right! (He still won't eat anything on his own) The bad news is that the vet said she was 90% sure that he had/has ECE. :( But, I wanted to let everyone know what I've been feeding him in case there are other folks like me out there who don't have any of them "fancy" appliances like meat grinders, blenders and microwaves! ;) After some experimentation, the final mixture I have been using the past couple of days is a mixture of Feline A/D (from the vet), Iams Kitten chicken (in the purple can) and Gerber's Chicken and Chicken Gravy baby food. I used equal portions of the above three and added 1 tsp of heavy whipping cream and a small amount of HOT water to thin the mixture out to a "gravy" consistency, as well as make it warmer for him (as they were all being kept in the fridge). He likes it so much that I can actually crush and mix his meds in and he's none the wiser. Another thing I've been doing is keeping his water bottle filled with unflavored Pedialyte and also offering a bowl with Apple juice flavored Pedialyte as well to keep him from dehydrating. (Apples are his favorite!) Obviously, I would not suggest this as a "normal" ferret diet, but while he's still recovering and needing his "bland" food, it seems to be working so far. This weekend I'm going to go out and buy a coffee bean grinder (which I don't have since I don't drink coffee) so I can crush up some of his regular kibble to begin to try and wean him off of this "gravy" mixture. As much as I know he loves the extra attention he's getting...mama has to get a full night sleep sometime! And for anyone who is interested in adopting The Sweet Dylan Henry, I forgot to mention in yesterdays post that I have a few pictures I can email if you'd like to see them! Take care everyone!
