[This note was also forwarded by Sukie Crandall. BIG] Dr Stevenson asked Danee Devore and me to post the following information for her. She further said "I hope it will assure you that the program [ADV research at UGa] is still very much alive and well, if not strengthened by my current location and endeavors. I apologize for not getting this announcement out sooner". Linda Iroff Oberlin OH -- DATE: May 29, 2002; revised June 3, 2002 FROM: M. A. Stevenson, DVM, PhD, DACVS TO: Ferret mailing list RE: current location I made the difficult decision recently to leave my clinical position at the University of Georgia (UGA) to pursue further in-depth training in research at the Rocky Mountain Laboratories (RML) in Hamilton, Montana. It was with mixed emotions that I made this choice. As hard as it was to leave my colleagues and students at UGA, my hope is that this formal postdoctoral research training will prepare me for a career more focused on research endeavors. I am happy to report that I left UGA on excellent terms with both my clinical and research colleagues, and I am continuing collaborations with members of both groups. Interestingly, for the next 2 - 5 years, I will be actively studying mechanisms of bacterial, rather than viral, disease. In my physical absence, the ADV research program at UGA will continue under the capable direction of Dr. Bran Ritchie and in the skilled hands of technician, Ms. Kate Pennick. I will continue to consult and collaborate on research matters by phone and e-mail to maintain continuity and assist in the interpretation of research findings. Some of you may recognize RML as the research facility where Dr. Marshall E. Bloom has spent his career and continues studying ADV in mink. Now that we are working only 1 floor apart, it will be much easier for us to discuss complicated or controversial consultation questions. Dr. Heather Wilson, an accomplished exotic pet clinician at UGA who is board-certified by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (avian specialty), will be available by e-mail for health-related questions about ADV-positive ferrets. Please direct your e-mails to Ms. Kate Pennick at [log in to unmask], and she will forward them to Dr. Wilson. Some of you are currently experiencing delays with CIEP results from UGA. One of the reagents we normally use in the test was unavailable, and we also had difficulties getting it shipped to the laboratory. We appreciate your patience in waiting for test results. Ms. Kate Pennick can give you the most updated information on when your results may be available. I apologize for any anxiety that I have caused anyone by not publicizing a formal announcement sooner. Please let me know if you have additional questions about the ongoing ADV research program at UGA. I can be contacted at [log in to unmask] I check this e-mail address at least twice weekly. Thank you for your patience and concern. [Posted in FML issue 3804]
