First let me say hello again. We used to be on the list but life got busy and I ended up unsubscribing... wish I hadn't but at least I found my way back! :) I missed you guys! Now the main reason for this post... Lil' Nose was diagnosed with adrenal cancer the end of last year. My regular vet missed it for about a year and a half after taking him in on several occassions for fur loss which was passed off as seasonal coat changes. Thank goodness for UT Vet School!! Now he is on the Depo shots and responding wonderfully. His fur is back in full glory and so is all the mischeif! I'm still missing a few socks if any should show up in that ferret black hole!! Pandora is my main concern right now. Last Thursday I took them both in for check ups (and Noser's shot) and it was discovered that Pandora has Insolnomia along with a benign mass in her spleen. She's almost 8 years old so surgery is out of the question for that and it's being watched closely. Tuesday night she seemed to crash. The best way to describe it was like her batteries were just going dead. She couldn't stay awake. After a tearful call to the Vet Center and talking to the vet, we did Karo Syrup every half hour for almost 3 hours at which point I just couldn't bear to torture her any more and let her sleep. There was no improvement but it looked like a classic case of low blood sugar. This morning there was no change so to the Vet School we went. Granted I expected the worse. Her blood sugar was 95 which is wonderful so we ruled out that it was a hypo attack which left the spleen issue on the table (the last thing I wanted to hear). After more tests they are now thinking she has a Flu Like situation going on and we will know more in the morning. Question is has any one else had this problem? She is on a Prednisone type medication to control the low blood sugar thing and the vet said that may have weakened her immune system and allowed this "cootie" in... if that's what it proves to be. They kept her over night and I'm hoping to get to bring her home in the morning. Noser is VERY upset that she's not here and is sleeping in the bottom hammock waiting for her. It's heart breaking!! If any one has information on Insolnomia in ferrets or this Gastro-thingy they think this episode is I would be forever greatfull! This turned out to be longer than I expected... sorry!! I'm just a worried ferret mom with stock in Kleenex now!! Glad to be back!! Sincerely Missy Simpson and the TN Brat Pack [Posted in FML issue 3791]
