Let me tell you about Squeakie. We got him from a shelter this past November. Shortly after we got him he got very aggressive to other ferrets. Some days he was fine, other days you could see him waiting to jump the others as they walked by him. The bad thing is that when he wasn't trying to chew someones ears off all he wanted to do was lay in one of our laps, roll around, and be loved and petted. We suspected that he was in the very early stages of Adrenal disease. Two shelter owners suggested that I use Rescue Remedy. The first time we used it Jackie got a drop on her finger and rubbed in behind his ears and on the pads of his feet. Within 30 minutes he was a totally different animal! He had mellowed out and was actually having a good time playing with the others!!! Now, as soon as I see that he is stressed I get one drop and rub it in behind his ears. Soon he is calmed down. I also put it in their drinking water: 5-6 drops per 16 oz of water. It's not much but the little he gets from the water helps keep him mellowed out. And since it's natural and not a drug it doesn't hurt that the others drink the water. I also use Rescue Remedy whenever we travel to keep down the stress and anxiety. Thankfully, Squeakie is scheduled for Adrenal surgery on April 1st and will be feeling his old mellow self again soon. But I will ALWAYS have the Rescue Remedy on hand for times that one of my kids is stressed out or too wound up and anxious and needs to relax a little. [Posted in FML issue 3731]
