I've read a lot about how sugar is bad for our little ferrets which is why I don't offer any treats with sugar to mine. However, I was just recently introduced to this new product called Tahitian Noni juice, it's is 100% natural, but it does contain natural sugars. Approx. 2 g per oz. I offered a little to my ferret and he really enjoyed it, I would like to continue giving him a little ( no more than 1cc at the most) on a daily basis. The reason why is that this juice is extremely healthy and it helps prevent and treat all kinds of health problems. I've been reading about it and have been very impressed with what I have found, both regular doctors and vets have used it to treat their patients and have all kids of wonderful things to say about it. I've actually started drinking it myself. Anyway, since it's all natural I was wondering if those natural sugars are harmful to ferrets, especially in such a small dosage? I would hate to give him something to try and help him and end up hurting him in the long run. I would appreciate any suggestions and also any comments from anyone that has heard anything about Noni juice and ferrets. My other question is: if anyone has any duck soup recipes that they could share with me I would appreciate it. My ferret has to takes florinef daily and prednisone every other day as a result of having both adrenal glands removed over a year ago (he has recovered perfectly). The only way I can get him to take his pills is to crush them in his soup...which he loves. But for some reason this whole time that I've been making soup for him I've been following this recipe and one of the ingredients is 5oz of Vanilla Boost, I don't know why it's taken me this long to realize that the Vanilla Boost is probably not something he needs in his diet (sugar). Anyway I've made him the soup without the Boost...and what do you know, now he does not like it anymore.... he definitely has a sweet tooth. I only give him about 1/2 oz of soup daily crushed with his pill(s). Feel free to e-mail me directly with suggestions on sugar-free soup recipes. The other ingredients in my recipe are 5oz of Beech Nut chicken baby food, 5oz of unflavored Pedialyte, 1 TBS peanut oil, 2 TBS ferretone, and 6inch squeeze of nutri cal. Thank you, Carolina and ferret Everest [Posted in FML issue 3626]
