One of our's will use only malt-flavor ones, or mix a favorite flavor with petroleum jelly which is what works. Oils do not work, and there is no reason to think that pineapple juice works in ferrets (See archives on topic.). When an unexpected death occurs it always pays to do a necropsy with pathology. Sometimes a cause is found that might endanger remaining ferrets and knowing the cause could stop further deaths.
