A couple of comments on some definitions... >PATH VALLEY, second ingredient is chicken meal (which is good) . Chicken >meal would be acceptable for human food, it's just ground up chicken Well, no, that is not the actual definition (see AAFCO official definition), but it is close. >PROFESSIONAL KITTEN CHICKEN & RICE, second ingredient is Chicken by >Product Meal (chicken by-products are what's left over from human grade >foods, feathers, feet, fur, guts, etc. and not nutritious at all (not >good) I disagree heartily....although fur and feathers are not particularly digestible or nutritious, "feet,...guts, etc." most definitely are both nutritious and digestible, especially (digestible anyways) when as highly processed as any chicken by-products in a commercial food are. Although not particularly attractive to most people, the "feathers, feet,...." are an important part of the natural diet of Mustelids (when eating whole chickens, mice, etc., ferrets leave almost nothing behind, aside from a few stray feathers and fur). Besides, the ingredient reads "chicken by-product MEAL"....very different from "chicken by-product". Check out your definitions in the AAFCO manual. G. A. Christian Bilou [Posted in FML issue 3603]
