>From: Lyal Shaw <[log in to unmask]> >This is a warning about products made by 8-in-1 called Marshmallow Cakes >and Fruit Cakes, and marketed as ferret treats. Several ferrets have had >surgery due to intestinal blockages due to the fruit chucks in the >products. The message stated that several ferrets had died. I've been trying to convince someone on another list regarding the bad practice of feeding veg and fruit to ferrets. Only a few days ago posted info about the 8-in-1 treat. I believe it is classed as suitable for ferrets and guinea pigs :-( What planet are these manufacturers on it definitely isn't the same one as sensible ferret owners. It's so sad that ferrets have to die to convince folk that they are carnivores who can't digest vegetables and fruit. My lot have developed a taste for lamb, followed by rabbit, then beef with chicken way down the list. I haven't tried the kits (rather large kits - the boy must weigh something between 5 and 6 lbs) on whole rabbit yet but I'll go and take a rabbit out of the freezer right now. Come on folks ditch the raisins... OK you'll naff your ferrets off for a little while but think how much better it will be for them, no sugary stuff in their teeth it might even cut down on insulinoma. Give 'em a raw bone instead of raisins - keep your ferts safe.... -- Sheila Bolton Ferret Welfare & N.F.W.S. News Editor. NFWS.
