Just as an FYI-- This week I ordered a refill of proglycem for Amelia and was told by the pharmacy (Walgreens) that their distributer had it on backorder and would not have more for a few months (!). Angell Memorial Animal Hospital, my vet's place, was also told this by their distributer (don't know whether it's the same distributer or not). Luckily Angell had a bottle on hand to give me. I called the drug's manufactuer, Baker Norton Pharmaceuticals, and I was told that they do in fact have plenty of proglycem on hand, and they don't know why any distributers would have it backordered. I was also told that pharmacists can order the drug directly from Baker Norton. So, if you try to get proglycem and are told it's unavailable, have your pharmacist call Baker Norton Pharmaceuticals at 1-800-347-4774 and order proglycem directly from the source. I had previously posted this message on the Ferret Health list and heard there that others in different parts of the country have encountered this problem too, but that Baker Norton was a pleasure to work with-- how nice! I can't even begin to tell you what a panic this threw me into-- I know Amelia's days are numbered, but to pass on because a drug was backordered, well, that would be profoundly wrong.
