I see occasional references recommending the use of Pepto for ferrets suffering from forms of enteritis or Heliocobacter. PLEASE DON'T DO THIS!!! Pepto has an agent in it that thins the blood much like apspirin does and bleeding intestinal lesions are a common symptom in most cases of enteritis and especially Heliocobacter. Pepto will enhance bleeding and it's the last thing you need, for your fuzzies to bleed out internally due to using Pepto. We have treated over 1000 cases in the last couple years and found that carafate or sulcrafate work better. If you are a shelter, your vet will usually work with you in showing you how to compound the pill form into a liquid for oral administraton. Do not use these drugs with out vets advice, nor should you assume the treatment of intestinal ailments and treat them with over the counter remedies without consulting your vet. My prayers to those who have been lost and the infirm and hugs to those still here. Ferretguy [Posted in FML issue 3472]
