>I ask them [local SPCA] if they got ferrets in very often. They said not >really but when they did they couldn't adopt them out b/c they couldn't >get a rabies shot! Yes, exact same reasoning from my local SPCA. No amount of literature or references helped, including a copy of South Carolina state law requiring rabies vaccination of ferrets before sale, the Department of Health and Environmental Control policy on ferret bites in which current proof of vaccination is adequate to mandate a quarantine vs a kill and test, and reference to their own copy of the Compendium of Animal Rabies Control, 2000. They cite their vet as the source of their info, but they are lying because I found out who their vet is (they wouldn't tell me) and their vet spoke to them and referred them to their own copy of the Compendium of Animal Rabies Control, 2000. Their policy remains unchanged and not knowing I spoke to the vet, they still cite the vet as the source of their disinformation. My local SPCA is most certainly operating on a hidden agenda.
