I have never had a bad batch of Totally Ferret, so it sounds like I am lucky. My ferrets love the taste of it but they also love Superior Choice from the ferret store. It looks to be just as good nutrition-wise as Totally Ferret. I mix 40% Totally Ferret, 40% Superior Choice and 20% Innova (all natural cat food). My ferrets wont eat Marshall Farms food or 8 in 1. I think they don't like the Marshall because of the fish smell. No idea about the 8 in 1 premium but the samples I recd. went uneaten. It is unfortunate that Performance Foods (provided the information previously posted is correct) would stop taking smaller orders directly. However, if they are having financial woes, they may have had to scale back staff and thus decided that they are better off only serving larger quantities. Not sure of the reason, but it is unfortunate. If this is the case, it explains why they would have a distributor/vendor in Washington providing supply. Lots of manufacturers do this to avoid all the order fulfillment. Yes, it is unfortunate, but common. I know nothing of the place that is supposedly carrying the food in my state. I will have to check them out and see if they are guilty of what Sandi Ackerman has posted. I hope not, because that sounds terrible! On to the ferret story for this week: Last night, I was cleaning the cage and watched Dopey come out from where he occasionally likes to do his "business". I went over to see what he did and cleaned up a fresh poop that contained some sort of worm. All of my ferrets were due for yearlies and shots so I loaded up the carrier (did not move to Beverly) and took them to the vet. He did a fecal float and said there were no parasites detected and asked if maybe the worm crawled on the feces from the ground. No worms to be found in my home. He said it looked like round worm. The only thing I can think of is that Dopey is the one who was involved in the "garbage" incident last week. As a precaution, he gave all some de-worming meds. I am happy to report that the Fervac shots went perfectly well - no reactions! I did not premedicate this time. My vet told me that he has never had a Fervac reaction but he has seen reactions to Galaxy in dogs. Anyway, if anyone else has had the worm experience, please email me. The worm was about 1/16" long and pinkish-brown. I am going to see if I can find some pictures on the Internet of round worm. I know it was in his poop. No, this is not a quest to find the lost worm. Gotta go, they have returned from Planet Ferreteen baring gifts of socks for us hoomans. [Posted in FML issue 3391]
