Greetings Ferret Lovers!!! How do you know if your ferret has stomach blockage??...or when to rush them to the emergency room for swallowing something?? Gigi scared me to death the other night....she started gagging and throwing up....one time it was clear.....the next was pinkish....the next time it was clear again...the next an orangey color. I wasn't sure if it was her food....cuz I ran out of ferret food and wasn't able to get to PetCo to get more....so I went to the grocery store to pick up some cat food til I was able to get her more ferret food. She only ate it for one day....but later that night...that's when she started throwing up. She was very lethargic.... I gave her some FerretLax and FerraVite...then she went straight to bed. She seemed to be okay after she threw up....but I kept checking on her during the night to make sure she was breathing. The next morning...she was fine...she and Tazz were playing and I checked her poop....it was a very light brown....but now it's back to normal. If she throws up....does that mean she is ok??...and if she wasn't able to throw it up....would that mean she has stomach blockage and would have to get her to surgery?? She had thrown up once before when I first got her....but that was because I feed her too many treats and after she threw it up...she was okay. Also, she seems to find whatever is on the floor and chews on it or eats it...plus, I noticed she attacked my shoes (with a cloth...spongy heel) and half of it was missing!...and one of my purses too. I'm afraid she is chewing it and swallowing it!!! I like to let her roam the house (except the kitchen and bathroom)...but now I'm hesitant cuz of the things she finds to chew on...it doesn't matter what it is...she'll chew on it.....and by the time I catch her...it's usually already gone. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated!!! Love and Dooks, Lisa, Briam, Gigi, Tazz & Sophie (the dog) =) [Posted in FML issue 3264]
