Ferrets change their winter/summer coat based on the photoperiod (length of daylight). If you keep your ferrest in the house, just like the vast majority of other, U.S. ferret lovers, the shedding time of year can be unpredictable. The lighting in your house upsets the normal amount of light they would receive if living outdoors, so they could shed at just about any time. I've had some that noticeably shed only a couple times over the course of a number of years. I can remember one time that Spaz shed his winter coat around the end of December. Hardly the right time of the year. If you live in northern latitudes and keep your ferrets outside 100% of the time, they should change coats around spring and fall.
