Hi Everyone- I am at my wits end. I have watched this lone ferret on this guy's deck be neglected for the very last time. I don't know what to do about it, as I have no right to climb up there and take it. I look at my ferrets, warm in their beds, cuddled together and I know that this poor little guy across the way is cold. It is 40 degrees outside and getting colder. The little guy eats Meow Mix, whenever the "owner" comes out to feed it. That is the only time the ferret sees the "owner"...or when he comes to scoop waste from the bottom of the cage, scraping it because it only gets scooped rarely. There is nothing covering the wire flooring, which I could handle, except for the fact that I imagine the claws of this ferret are so long they break off. I have watched the little guy get rained on - blowing thunderstorms - thinking that perhaps the owner just forgot the ferret was outside. But this is the last straw. The owner came out and threw a blanket over the cage, as if that is supposed to keep the ferret warm. I am sickened by this. What do I do? Who do I call? Do I write him a letter? I certainly don't know this guy's circumstances, except for the fact that he should not have a "pet" ferret...looks like the novelty wore off. Perhaps the ferret is too smelly, perhaps the guy is allergic, perhaps the guy has a mental problem that doesn't register cruelty as a sin. If anyone has suggestions on how I might get help rescuing this ferret, let me know. It will only get colder this winter. I can't even open my curtains because I know that sweet cold sable face is out there, across the way. Thanks for any suggestions, Stephanie, Chimi and Pepe [Posted in FML issue 3223]
