Or maybe it was the right place, the right time... you make the call. I stopped by Petsmart on my way back from work today. I normallystop by Pet Supplies but I thought Petsmart might have betterprices. (And I could avoid the baby ferrets!) I wanted to pick up more toys for the kids and get some proplan kitten food. As I was walking away from the ferret toys, I overheard a woman say to a couple, "Hey, do you know anyone who wants to buy a pair of ferrets?" They said no and went on their way and then there's me. I opened my big mouth and next thing ya know, I had a 20 minute conversation with this lady. Apparently the owner of the ferrets needs to find them a home because his father is sick and he needs to move out of state to go take care of him. So after talking for a while, one sounds like a marked white (white with silver on it's back) and the other is a sable. The woman who has taken them in the meantime took them to get rabies shots yesterday. They don't have distemper shots. She doesn't know if they are boys or girls but both are less than 1 year old. :( They have a 3 storycage (sounds like a Midwest maybe) and the guy wants to sell them with the cage for $175 or best offer. If he/she doesn't find a home for them, she's taking them to an auction tomorrow evening (Friday) and going to auction them off. Call me if you want them. If not, it's outta my hands. Gave her my email address (the ferretkrazi one) and told her to put that on the flyer that she's using at the auction tomorrow. At least if someone buys them, they'll have *someone* to contact about health maintenance and care. (Yeah, someone may decide to email me a crazy note but I have to do something.) Did I mention the guy is feeding them "Happy Cat?" Yep, she said she knew they should have a better diet but didn't want to upset them by switching foods. I believe her, she used to have ferrets and she seemed like she was honestly trying to help. So I got home from buying a ton of stuff and worrying about those 2 fuzzies and there was a message on my machine from someone saying they have THREE ferrets to "find a good home for." (got my number from Petsmart... ironic?) Said his landlord is making him get rid ofthem by Sunday. He sounded honestly upset but then again, I AM naive. Called him back and he didn't seem to know ANYTHING about them. Two albinos and one chocolate or sable... One of the albinos is a girl, the other two are boys. (Wouldn't bet on it.) When asked if they were up to date on shots, he said, "Yeah, I think so... well, I don't know, my wife and I work opposite shifts." (???? What the heck does that have to do with it? You should know!!!) They are also under a year old. I told him I'd see what I could do but I couldn't make any guarantees. I don't know if they come with a cage or if he'd give 'em up for free. It sounded as if he'd be willing to surrender them to a good home. Again, I have contact info if any of you are interested. Please reply to me at this email account - [log in to unmask] I am (and the ferrets are) in the Warren, Ohio area, 'bout 75 minutes south of Cleveland, Ohio and 90 minutes northwest of Pittsburgh, PA. I'd be MORE than happy to help transport them up to 3 hours one way. Even more, I guess, if you're interested. I cried. I don't know how you shelter moms and dads do it... I just sat on my bed and cried. And these guys are youngins' and have a good chance of being adopted out!! What about the older ones, theones who "no one wants anymore?" I called my S.O., he consoled me and said I can't save the world, much as I would like to. Gonna do everything I can, I just wish it was more. Thanks and PLEASE, let me know if you can help me save the world... Or at least a few ferrets. With high hopes and a sad heart... Love, Erin Lynx ~ "Mom, why are you crying?" Tigger ~ "Where's Amira? that little snot!!!" Odin ~ "Do dee do dee do...zzzzzzzzzzz...zzzzz" Sebastian ~ "Yay! New tubes!" Amira ~ "What? Mom was crying? I didn't hear her..." Mondo ~ "Come over and let me lick at your tears. I love you mom." [Posted in FML issue 3204]
