If you live within reasonable traveling distance of Santa Fe, New Mexico, you may be interested in scheduling your ferret(s) for surgery by Dr. Charles Weiss, who will be hosted by Dr. Michael Treitler at the Cedarwood Veterinary Clinic on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 28-29. Dr. Weiss will demonstrate cryosurgery for adrenalectomies and he will also do other surgeries as needed. For example, one of my ferrets will get a second partial pancreatectomy -- not a common treatment for ferrets in New Mexico -- because Dr. Weiss treats so many ferrets that he can do the surgery very rapidly, minimizing the time the ferret is under anesthesia. He has also achieved very good results with this approach. The more ferrets lined up, the better, because the cost will be spread out among all clients. If you want to schedule a surgery for one of your ferrets, I suggest you call Dr. Treitler's office directly at 505-982-4469, as his office is planning on finalizing a schedule for surgeries during the two days of Dr. Weiss' visit by sometime next week. Yippee! We are so fortunate to have Dr. Treitler hosting Dr. Weiss. I believe Dr. Treitler will become the first vet in New Mexico to do cryosurgery on ferrets -- certainly in northern New Mexico, which is where most of the population lives. Also, as Paula Federici, who has many ferrets who are regular clients of Dr. Treiter, may post a separate notice here, please do not consider this notice to be in disagreement with hers. If she gives different instructions, please follow them. Thanks and best wishes and good health to all. Linda, Lucky Charm, Chocolate Moose, & Zipper [Posted in FML issue 3209]
