Galaxy D is not approved by the USDA for ferrets because it has not been sufficiently tested in ferrets. It is approved for other animals. You can even get it (and several other vaccines, like Fervac-D) from mail order companies (like Jeffers). Because Fervac-D has been proven effective in ferrets, it should be the first choice in ferrets that have not had a reaction to it. In those ferrets that have had life-threatening reactions to Fervac, Galaxy D is a better choice than no vaccination at all. For separating vaccines, I think Sukie is suggesting that the rabies vaccine (IMRAB-III) not be given at the same time as the distemper vaccine--typically 2-3 weeks apart. This will eliminate any chance of the ferret reacting to the interaction of the vaccines, and, if there is a reaction, you will know which vaccine caused it. I don't know how common distemper is in Northern CA, but at least three ferrets have died from distemper in Orange County in the last 12 months. It is nearly always fatal. ---- The Beach Boyz* surf on over to http://Beach_boyz.go.cc Californians for Ferret Legalization: http://www.ferretnews.org Get & use the CFL Wanted poster: http://ferrets.go.cc [Posted in FML issue 3169]
