Hello All! I haven't posted for a while because of email problems...but whopee I am all right now! Anyway, I must update you all! Andy picked up his two sweeties that I was babysitting. Then, I got a call to take a 5 month old female biter and train her. So, I got her and she is not spayed or descented, so we are doing that on Thursday. I have had her for a little over 2 weeks and she has improved greatly, but I am afraid that she will bite anyone except me now! She still is a little nippy, but VERY cute! She's a BAD biter - holds on and shakes her head while ripping my flesh...but now her bites are lighter and she doesn't hold on. SHe had not been handled at all except for roughness (owner is a breeder :( and wears gloves - lets the ferrets all beat up on each other too). She was very rigid when I picked her up and always turned her head to bite, but that is not happening now and she trusts me. :o) So, her nickname is SnapDragon, but I think I will call her Molly. This breeder is not a big breeder, but even a few is too many I believe. There are also three 8 week old babies I may take on from this same person. I have had to take in 3 of hers in the past few years. Unfortunately, the first one I got from her was a small male who was neutered and was kept in with the unneutered males - well, you can guess what was happening there! This poor little guy was just tortured. When I got him, he was petrified of everything and all other ferrets. He had a bald, scarred head and it took several months for him to realize that he could be loved and he could trust people and other ferrets who just wanted to play with him and he finally got some hair on that scarred up little head. The poor guy died after 2 years of adrenal problems - he was only about 4 or 5 years old - too much stress I think. Anyway - the next one - Flower was a little biter too, but quickly learned that she got more attention if she didn't bite - and is TOTALLY a sweetie, and even tho just a half-pint, she is THE BOSS! She's the one who hisses and barks and everyone and everything - her way of talking. So, now, I have SnapDragon Molly and I think I will keep her - I'm not sure if she will be adoptable if she remains a biter. But I love her! Have Fuzzy Days!
