Ok Sukie got me to come out of lurk Mode for a few. :) For those looking to have wheels made for their little ones. Contact www.doggon.net Lori owns Doggon Wheels and she is wonderful to work with. For those who have shelter kids, she only charges material costs and that is very kind concidering the time that it takes to make one. I posted earlier this year when Big Bear, our boy on wheels, decided to leave us. He was a ferret who enjoyed life to the fullest and we will keep him in our hearts forever. For those who never knew him you can read about his story on our site, I think it's worth the read...he is my inspiration and I'm sure he could be yours too. It seems things are finally starting to mellow around here. We had a tough last few months. Sammy, a sweet girl, who's past owner told me had been caged for the last two years and now no longer has time to refill food and water bowls came here so skinny and sick. I kept duck souping her and she kept dropping weight. She would eat like a horse her kibble too. Poor thing lived only to eat. She would litterally just eat until she fell asleep. No time for playing or being a ferret. It ended up being her liver. She is now on Hills L/D and is gaining like mad. She's even chasing me around and trying to climb my legs now, as well as being what of the best dancers I've seen. I told her if she keeps it up, I may some day even call her chubby. Ambrosia came here as a over worked breeder fed ghastly food. We had her spayed soon after she came here, wanting to make sure she wouldn't go into heat here. Well two weeks later, thanks to the awful food she was fed a kidney stone got stuck in the wrong place and caused her kidney to blow up to the size of a baseball. We were lucky it did not burst and our vet was able to remove it. And now she too is dancing and gaining weight. Many thanks to my wonderful vet who did the surgery at office closing time and took her home with her to be watched afterwards. I'm hoping Cooper will be last of the sickies for awhile. He came in being very defensive of his cage, but otherwise good weight and activity, in fact a huge appitite and the most perfect bowel movements I've ever seen. I know that it's ill to take pride in such a thing....but darn if he always has the perfect looking stools. Then over a two week period he started losing his energy level. Still ate good, and output was good. It ended with me finding him a little disorientated so I picked him up to bring him into the docs. He started drooling on our way there. Well it looked like insulinoma. So since he's a fairly robust little guy of about 4 we decided that surgery was the best bet. He ended up having 4 tumors on his pancreas removed and his left adrenal gland. He is laying here next to me know and is recouping well. It's been 3 days and we checked his glucose today and it's perfect. He still has two little nodules on his face which need to be removed, but we are waiting till he is completely healed from this surgery before doing anything about them. One looks to be a very small mast cell and the other is a tiny cyst. If his appitite says anything about how he's doing, then he is doing super. He also is back to being a little stinker about his cage again and biting anyone who dares to touch anything in it, so thats a good sign with him. Don't get me wrong though, he is an absolute doll outside of his cage. The kind of fuzzbutt who loves to fall asleep on a warm lap and get his head stroked. Just don't touch his food! He knows your want to eat it all up! Many fuzzy kisses to you all and may none of your faces be numbed.
