This question is directed to ferret shelter operators: We just today received a letter from our homeowners insurance company stating that because we have a ferret shelter in our home, we have 60 days to find a new insurance carrier. This firm is USAA (military) out of Texas and we have used them for the past 15 years. I had called them this spring asking about special liability insurance for the shelter so that we could rent a National Guard Armory...and that probably prompted their letter. They had never questioned the fact that we had a shelter in our home before this and they were made aware of it when we started it in 1995. Question is--does any other shelter have a homeowners insurance policy that is ferret friendly? I will start calling insurance companies on Monday, but I sure would be interested in hearing from any of you about your experiences. (You can email me directly because I'm way behind in reading the fml.) Thanks in advance for your time. The mother was watching TV and fell asleep and never heard the baby crying. She credits her german sheperd dog with saving the baby's life. Apparently the two ferrets were euthanized. Did anyone else see this? [Posted in FML issue 3099]
