Hi. Am sending this to both FML and FAIML (the adrenal/insulinoma list I moderate), since I just got a FAIML list out yesterday and would like feedback sooner. Please, if anyone has a ferret-experienced vet (not an exotics vet that occasionally sees ferrets) they can recommend ASAP around the Kenner LA, 70065 area, send info soon. I've been corresponding with a man who has had many tests run on a ferret and it has been sent home still stumbling and weak with the comment that it should get slowly better. It was treated with prednisone (probably injectible from the cost - really high) for a spinal injury, though nothing turned up in x-rays. Apparently the vet said it was doing better at the vets, which may indicate insulinoma since it got pred, but only a vet can say. I've asked if a fasting blood glucose was done, but as far as I can tell it wasn't, nor an antibiotic tried (amoxi has spontaneously "cured" a few of these mystery illnesses where weakness was involved - nothing showing in x-rays or through blood tests - for our guys, who apparently had bacterial infections which really waylaid them. While antibiotics should never be prescribed lightly, we've tried them as a last resort at times and, to vast relief, got stunning results.) I have a hunch what may help here is a ferret-experienced vet, but at least a second opinion couldn't hurt. I'll forward all info to the gentleman. Thanks in advance!
