Long time, no post. We moved in January and are still settling in, so I haven't been that faithful of a reader lately. I, too have a box spring digger and we solved it by stapling a sheet to the bottom. We also covered the sides with a fitted sheet and the mattress is protected with an over sized sheet. My problem today is that ever since we moved, Stinky (trouble maker extrordinare) has been dumping the food and water bowls. The ferrets are free to run in the bedroom and bath, both kind of small. There is no place for a cage or carrier to hold a water botttle. The floor is hardwood in the bedroom and tile in the bathroom, so we want them to drink in the bathroom. I solved the food dish problem with a heavy, flat ceramic platter. Now they only pick it up and drop it at one end to let me know it is low on food (usually at 2:00am). The water problem has been harder. The same dish won't work. They can still nose under it, and while a small portion of food on the floor is fine (they can still eat it, or I can put it back in the plate), water has a different effect. I am growing tired of wet floors and 5 thirsty (some also wet) ferrets because of one trouble maker. Anyone have a suggestion? Email me personally, as well as the list, as I explained I don't get to read it often anymore. I also have a suggestion for anyone with litter tracking problems. I took a sifting litter pan and cut the back off the sifter and 1 solid pan. That's sort of the 'runway'. Then, I put a high backed ferret litter pan in the cut away and duct-taped it. Now when they crawl out, most of the litter goes through the sifter to the solid pan on not onto the floor. I think the high back and low front of the ferret litter pan are essential to making this work. At least, my guys don't want to crawl over two big walls to go potty. As long as the litter is clean, they go in the appropriate tray. If someone thinks it's too dirty, they go in the sifter tray. Even then, there's a lot less litter on my floor now. I chose duct tape over hot glue so I could clean the solid pan of litter occasionally. That's it for today. Dani [Posted in FML issue 3075]
