While Trish has my deepest sympathy for the loss of her beloved ferret, I feel I must speak up at the allegation that Quality Cages are dangerous and should be thrown away because of "spring closure" top doors. First of all, the top door do not have spring closures, a spring closure would mean the hinge itself it springed and causes the door to snap back. The top door on these cages must be manually opened and closed like any door, the latches used to hold it shut are the spring type latches, which are used on MANY cages. That is two very different things. These cages were designed in part, by someone I personally know, respect and trust greatly. They were designed with the idea of being perfect cages. especially for breeders, shelters and multi-ferret households. They were designed with safety in mind, which is why the "balconies" are enclosed rooms, to prevent falls I know that this person AND the folks AT Quality would be horrified at this development and if made aware of it, would look into an alternative to the tops. I have had a Quality Cage for quite some time, have found it to be the best and safest cage I have ever used and plan on getting more. I also know breeders and shelters who have a number of these cages who all feel the same way. Now, I am not accusing anyone of anything but the top door on mine has always been shut down as tight as it will go and the latches pulled down as far as they will go.. after reading all the comments I went and double checked mine.. no matter how hard I pushed, pulled, tugged or hit. that top door did not move even a centimeter. Is it possible the door was not secured all the way down? This is not to imply you are a bad ferret owner, freak accidents happen to the best of owners and it is always tragic...... but I have a really hard time sitting back and seeing a very reputable company who makes one of the best and safest cages available trashed over one freak accident. I think we could all cite dozens of accidents from various cages... falling off Midwest shelves comes to mind. [Posted in FML issue 3091]
