Getting a new whole-house (tiny condo -- we have places our money has to go, people it has to see...) AC with new coil tomorrow. AC hasn't completely died, but it's 15 years old with some compressor problems, so while it might limp through another year with a back-up he described to help the compressor we explained that with ferrets we couldn't take that chance. Good news: it uses MUCH less energy (Went for an real energy saver on top of not being extreme with settings, or running AC when windows are open, etc.) so over the long run we'll save more money than it costs (and that money can also have places to go and people to see). The interesting thing? He wasn't surprised by the ferrets and AC comment. Things sure are changing over time. Oh, important comment: a family in the tristate area was in the news; they ran their AC with their furnace also on and the result was that their large home filled with carbon monoxide and 6 people died. Use care... With 7 ferrets we find that we are best off with the pine pellet litters, but we learned a neat thing recently. Used Yesterday's News for Warp post-op. While we did NOT find it good for a LOT of ferrets what we have noticed is that for a low number (Okay, one -- with visitors each day now since two individuals can be trusted with her almost closed belly even though those tow would not have been so fine with a new wound. Warp should be back in with the rest today, tomorrow, or Thursday.). Arrggghhhh -- here I go rambling (asthma time from pines -- no oxygen to brain). Anyway, for a low number of ferrets the Yesterday's News is marvelous, just absolutely marvelous even though we don't like it at all for large numbers, so when considering litters also consider the number of ferrets in the household. It could be a defining factor. [Posted in FML issue 3047]
