Hi there. We've just recently moved to Okinawa, Japan. I was in contact with a couple people who were located here or on mainland Japan before we left about getting our fuzzy here. Dusty made the trip over on Delta/JAL fine. She has an insulinoma, so it was a bit stressful for all of us, but we had our emergency kit ready (Karo syrup, honey, meds and water) and she did fine. She is currently taking a very low dosage of prednisone (which we are having compounded into a "sweet" syrup form in the states and sent. They have some "recipe" she just loves and takes it like a treat off of a plastic spoon). We make sure she eats every 4-6 hours, (some of the food we have added brewer's yeast to which is a protein supplement and she gets a few of these pieces in the a.m. and p.m. and every so often as we see necessary), as well as periodic checking on her and a treat of a cheerio or crushed food with water on it. She has had the insulinoma for almost a year now and is to be 7 in July. Dusty has adjusted and actually seems to be doing quite well in this semi-tropical atmosphere. We have been to a few shops that have ferrets and they look good--of course more expensive than the states. Picked up a ferret book just too see what they have (of course can't read it, but most of it is fairly self-explanatory). We tend to collect any and all info regarding ferrets to keep ourselves up-to-date on new medical issues as well as just new info. Anyway, was wondering if there is anyone still located over here that we might be able to correspond with. Kim, Reg and Dusty [Posted in FML issue 3026]
