It has been brought up and thoroughly discussed several times. Cats were domesticated in Egypt. They also apparently have been keeping mongeese over the centuries as well. Ferrets seem to have been domesticated in Europe centuries later. Its a matter of when civilization reached the point that granaries were large enough to need animals to reduce the vermin population.
