Oooooooh, Robynn, I wish I could actually see a ferret dangling from someone's mouth while having their nail clipped. Maybe it's my vision, or lack thereof, but I can't focus well enough to try and clip nails with a ferret that close to my face. Doesn't their head get in the way of being able to see their feet? Does anyone have a pic of doing this, on their webpage? Maybe I'm not going about it the right way. Besides, NOBODY could clip our Neugi's nails with him hanging from their face. They wouldn't have a face left, he would chew it right off. The only way Neugi can be scruffed is by holding his hind legs with your other hand. He's so agile he can twist and chomp the fingers holding him by the scruff. We use a big smear of Petromalt on the belly, followed by a chaser of Ferretone if the nail clipping outlasts the Petromalt. Margerine works well too. If the ferret is recalcitrant, I would suggest putting the substance of choice on their belly several times, without any attempt to clip nails. Once they find that goodies on their belly are fun, they will remain relaxed while you do nail or two. I'm not much for fixing what isn't broken, and setting the ferret on my lap has always worked well. But I'm still interested in seeing how it's done the other way. Georgia - the left coast one...
