Hi! Many people see something different and immediately jump to the conclusion that it is wrong, against the way of things, etc. I am going to suggest that we stop and think first. New idea there! Many new "breeds" are created by nature itself. Rex, hairless, tailless are all genetic mututaions. If we did not have mutations we would not have animals such as we have today. That is what evolution is about and it is an ongoing thing within natures acceptable parameters. The only thing man has changed about the mutations is to keep certain strains alive and viable that might not have made it in the natural way of things. This is neither right nor wrong. So given enough time we will probably see mini-ferrets, rex ferrets (I've heard there are some of these around), wire-haired ferrets, and others. These are all acceptable mutations in a fancy that loves their ferrets. Something different is wrong, you say...well, then lets make blondes (or red heads, or whatever) illegal too. Anything different is always viewed with suspicsion. I for one have no problem with mutations. I am not condoning the abuse of animals to make them look different .... that is something entirely different. Don't confuse the two things. I personally would love to see rex ferrets! Oooh! Love my rex cats, so rex ferrets would be neat. Judith Moonsong Ferrets http://moonsongferrets.virtualave.net Ferrets bred and raised to be the perfect companion. [Posted in FML issue 2923]
