After reading the story about Squirrel who might have been saved by
a visit from his former family I just had to write about my Lester.

3 years ago I left Lester and his brother Cuppy in the very capable
hands of his Auntie Diane at South Shore ferret Care. He had been
there many times and I knew he would be just fine.

He had been sick for some time so I gave permission that if the time
came for him to go to the bridge it was ok.

The day before I was to come home I got a call on my cell phone. I was
in a resteraunt on a beautiful beach having lunch. It was Diane telling
me that she thought Lester was tired and it was time to let him go.

Of course I started to cry and left the resteraunt with my family
wondering who died. She was at work at her mortage job and Lester was
with her. She had gone outside to call me, knowing that she would cry.
I needed to talk to Lester to tell him it was ok to go. So she went
back inside and got him. She brought him outside so that I could talk
to him one more time.

I told my baby that I loved him and would miss him terribly, but if he
was tired and needed to go it was ok. That Grandma Phyllis ( Dianes mom
who drove a school bus) would meet him with the bus and there were lots
of friends there too. I also told him that I would be home the next day
and would come and pick him up when I got home if he could wait.

Now keep in mind that I was crying my heart out in a parkinglot in
Paradise and Diane was crying her eyes out outside at her job!

Well when Lester got back to Dianes after work he and Cuppy had a talk
and he told Cup that it was ok that I would be home the next day. At
that point they both started to eat and use the litterbox, which they
had not done since I left. Lester lived another 6 months. He ended up
paralyzed by some sort of cancer, but until the end he would throw
himself at me when I called his name to give me kisses.

So you see sometimes all it takes is a phone call to make things a
little better. I was lucky to have Diane in my corner. Lester was
lucky that Diane loved him so and we are all lucky to have each other!
