Hi again Fellow Ferret Lovers:

Sasha is six months old. He was a rescue baby and we think that he was fed
grocery store cat food up until the time we brought him home in March. When
he joined our family he enjoyed his Iams kitten food, no problems, great
appetite. Recently, perhaps a month or so ago, I've noticed that he is
eating very little, particularly at night when it seems that his food has
barely been touched. He was recently neutered; he and Katy still have
separate cages (as some you you may recall - we had concerns about the two
getting along, now they are the best of buddies, however, Katy doesn't care
to move to his cage). I've wondered if he misses her and that's why he
doesn't eat at night. During the day he nibbles at Iams, Excel or Totally
Ferret kitten food, but doesn't seem to be eating enough! He enjoys "Heinz"
chicken baby food and will eat *almost* a jar a day, but that doesn't
provide him with the proper nutritional requirements? The ferret poops are
in keeping with his appetite, however, they seem fine otherwise. I know
that he chews on socks, etc and will ingest the fabric; last week before I
could get it away from him, Sasha swallowed a piece of heavy string - I
rushed Sasha to the vet who induced vomiting and the entire piece came up.
We are giving Sasha "Tonic-Lax" (a laxative in a palatable base fortified
with vitamins, iron and vitamin b12), per prescription. The vet says that
Sasha seems healthy enough and didn't feel there was need for concern.
Sasha seems healthy enough to me as well and is bouncing around joyfully,
however, his tendency towards munching foreign matter and the seeming lack
of appetite have got me wondering and worried. Can someone *please* shed
some light on this for me, and Sasha?

Jean and her sweetheart ferret Katy, and
Sasha the darling (who has Mom really concerned).
