Hello FML!
 
I've had ferrets, ferrets and more ferrets.  Free romaers and caged alike.
I can consider myslef knowlagable on this subject seeing how I've had both
for many years.  Caging ferrets all depends on circumstance.  My first
ferret was caged, I got him like that, I didn't really think much about
letting him roam like a cat or dog.  My second ferret was a free roaming
ferret.  I got her as a birthday present and the people that had her before
me let her run free.  I leanred quickly the do's and dont's.
 
If you live in a house with children, Don't let it run free all the time
 
If you live with people that aren't very responsible about leaving windows
or doors open, Don't.
 
If you live in a house that's got holes in the walls or major clutter
about, Don't.
 
If you live alone or with responsible people let it free!
 
If you have guests over it's always good to have a cage handy.  You never
know when family or friends are making surprise visits into town.  It is
truly a good idea to keep a cage handy for certain unexpected things.  I
have small babies and kids that I babysit.  They come in and out all day
long.  This is a situation where a cage is a good thing.  I let them out at
night to play with my daughter.  When you decide on wheather or not to cage
take your home environment into consideration.  Think of the ferrets safety
when deciding to cage or not to cage, that is the question.  :)
