I am confused. Everyone is going after Miss Clay and saying that she
is picking on Miss Zoo. Did I misread?

>I've been to one sanctuary, and that was Cathy Strobach's. She has
>a wonderful set up, with love and care. What I saw were 8 week old
>ferrets and upwards. Those in her care were typical of what we receive
>everyday in shelters, their stories or origin were no different than
>what we get. The only difference is that we adopt out, she doesn't.
>That doesn't mean that I don't respect her for what she does, because
>I do. I respect and appreciate anyone taking in unwanted ferrets.

This was pulled from her post in digest #2007-256 (sept11-12)

I have read Zoo misquoting Miss Clay. Is it intentional or accidental?
I don't know or care. I have read Miss Clay's views on sactuaries and,
although I agree, I think she does tend to go overboard. I don't know.
Maybe I am just not reading things right.

And now for my opinion: Their is a time and a need for sanctuaries.
The definition implies that a sanctuary is for non-companion animals.
It is a place to hopefully rehab them until they can be released into
their natural environment. IMHO a companion animal that is taken in and
kept should be called a personal. A personal should be cared for out of
your own pocket. NOT with donations from others.

I firmly believe that there is no such thing as an unadoptable ferret.
My famiily has taken in those considered unadoptable and given them
final loving homes for the rest of their lives. We have taken in the
biters, the old, the ill, the incapacitated. Does this make us a
sanctuary? Nope. It makes us a loving home and these kids are our
personals that are supported by us and our incomes.

So, ladies, shake hands and agree to disagree.
