Yes, do it!!!! It is one of the nicest things you can do for your
ferret. When they are used to wearing a harness from a young age, they
don't even notice and will walk with you and enjoy all the outdoor
sounds, sights and smells. I suggest using a very small retractable
leash so that you can quickly regulate the distance they are from you.
Make sure he is up to date on his vaccinations and remain very alert
for other animals AND children approaching. You are also helping your
ferret by acquainting him with the way back to his home...always try to
give him free leash when he is getting closer to home and let him find
the way. There are more tips than I could possibly tell you. But I will
tell you that your ferret is a lucky little guy!

You can check out my video (from a couple of years ago, wow that
long?), showing us camping with our guys. Note they are always on
harness and retractable leash (except when we are in the zipped tent).
