This is such a personal and sensitive subject I wasn't going to
comment, but after 3 days of watching I have yet to see what works
best for us mentioned.

Of course we are all assuming that our children have chosen to leave
when the clinic is open or we can find medical help in some way. I wish
that were always the case. But when it is, we give a little torb, a
little ace, diluted in a little saline, via an insulin syringe, sub q
in the scruff. The saline dilutes the two meds so there is not even the
slightest sting and the the diabetic syringe needles are so small they
never feel them.

In a few minutes the meds kick in and they start getting sleepy. From
there they slowly drift into la la land, all while being held, talked
or sung to.

Now they are totally out, but we know from human studies, hearing is
one of the very last senses to go, so the talking and singing continue.
We go to the back room, apply the ISO mask with out them ever knowing
its there. No fear, no fight, no fuss. The gas comes on, that familiar
voice and hand are still there, and we lower them into a surgery ready
state. Some how that has always seemed ironic to me. Ready for surgery,
but no surgery could cure what has brought us here. When they are far
enough 'down' we could do surgery, then and only then do we do a heart
stick. They never twitch, seize, anything, under that much anesthsia
they have felt nothing, their hearts just stop. Then, when they are
safely gone, mine breaks. Until then, all they have heard and felt
from me is love, peace, and comfort.
