Hi, everyone,

I've been extremely busy, but when I've read about all the sick and
recovering ferts, y'all have been in my thoughts. I'm afraid one of mine
needs those warm vibes right now. Pertwee, our red-eyed white, deaf,
bundle of love, has been losing weight steadily. The weight loss has now
reached almost a full pound, and Dr. Hudson, our vet, is quite concerned.
(Yes, this is the same Dr. Dan Hudson who pioneered right adrenal
surgeries.)

Pertwee shows no other symptoms. He eats and poops well, and plays with
unlimited energy. He just keeps getting thinner and thinner, to the point
where his sides now have that caved-in look Nyssa had when she had her
blockage. The only abnormality Dr. Hudson has found in his exams is
wheezing, which is to be expected with his allergies.

To give you an idea of how thin he is, Pertwee is our longest ferret, but
he weighs less than all of our other males, and Nyssa as well. He
currently is right around 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds), which doesn't sound that
light until you realize how big and long he normally has been. Anyway, he
is going to have lab work done tomorrow, and will be spending the day at
the animal hospital being observed. Dr. Hudson's only guess so far is
hyperthyroidism, but that normally shows up in older ferrets, and Pertwee
is only 14 months old.

In any case, I'm asking that y'all keep Pertwee in your thoughts. I'm just
hoping and praying that the tests show *something*, and that something is
easily treatable.

Take care,
Caity
